Adam Liaw – Chef/Author
The City of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival is a wonderful celebration of both modern and traditional Chinese food, art and culture as seen through eyes of our overseas Chinese community, who have come to Sydney from areas as different as Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as mainland China. I’m very proud to share my heritage in celebration of Australian diversity in this Year of the Dragon.
Xin Nian Kuai Le, Kung Hei Fat Choy and a happy new year to all.

I can hardly wait to welcome the Year of the Dragon. The Dragon is often considered the most auspicious, dynamic and powerful creature in the Chinese zodiac and the 2012 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival will reflect this by being more vibrant, entertaining and exciting than ever. I look forward to joining you, your friends and family at the celebrations. Here’s to a wonderful new year and a brilliant festival, here in the world’s most beautiful city.

For my family, Chinese New Year has always been about getting together and sharing food, food and more food. The City of Sydney has gone a few steps further to bring you a celebration that encompasses rich traditions of music and art, boat races, performances, firecrackers – and food, glorious food. The city will come alive! So let’s gather our friends and family to reflect on the achievements of the past year and welcome the Year of the Dragon.

Sydney is like the Dragon: free-spirited, innovative and enterprising; filled with passionate and generous people. I am proud to be Australian-Chinese and an Ambassador for the City of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival, enjoying all that Australia and Sydney has to offer. May the Year of the Dragon bring you good fortune and success.
