Sydney has one of the most vibrant and diverse Asian communities of any city in the world, and it’s an honour to once again be a part of the City of Sydney’s Lunar New Year celebrations. I can’t think of a better way to share my heritage as an Asian-Australian than to welcome in the Year of the Snake with the great food, music and culture that will take over the city this February. I can hear the drums and firecrackers already!

It is always exciting to celebrate Chinese New Year in Australia – to share my Chinese background in the country I now call home is something very special. I am particularly looking forward to the inaugural Dragon Ball this year, the mix of tradition in a modern context has me especially thrilled!

Chinese New Year is my favourite celebration of the year because of the food, lion dancing, fireworks and family and friends. The City of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival brings all that together in one big celebration! As a proud Chinese Australian, I always make sure to have my biggest meal of the year at this time to welcome in a prosperous year, and I’m especially excited this year as it’s the Year of the Snake, my zodiac.
Xin Nian Kuai Le, Kung Hei Fat Choy and a happy New Year to all.
