Maurice Newman with Snake

The Taronga Foundation is honoured to be the Charity Partner for the 2013 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival

In the Year of the Snake, we celebrate an animal that has been both feared and revered since the dawn of time – from the people of Western Arnhem Land who associate the Rainbow Serpent with fertility and abundance, to one of the most enduring symbols of Chinese mythology and culture. At Taronga, we love snakes for their grace and beauty, and for the important role they play in our natural environment.

Taronga’s cause is for the wild – every living wild animal – because we believe that humankind and animals have a future together in a world we can share. Our aim is to help species thrive, in our zoos and in the wild. Our extensive conservation work both in Australia and in some of the most remote parts of the world helps to safeguard the future of wildlife and habitat everywhere.

We are the first line of defence – and the last resort.

We hope you will support us in the many activities we undertake to help protect the future of our wildlife. I invite you to join us by donating online www.taronga.org.au/year-of-the-snake.

On behalf of the Taronga Foundation, I wish you a very happy Chinese New Year.
